£100k Tax free childcare eligibility

Options
Hi MSE Forum

One of the current rules for Tax Free child care is if you or your partner have an expected “adjusted net income” over £100,000 in the current tax year, you will not be eligible.

I have some questions:

1. I looked at the definition of “adjusted net income” and its not very clear. It talks about “taxable income” but when I look at my self assessment to find the right number it uses the phrase “income on which tax is due”. Are these the same thing?

2. If I earn a £100,000 salary, do I knock off the tax free amount of £12,570? I.e. £87,430 meaning I am eligible for tax free child care? Or is this gross income only?

3. I have property rental income should I add this on top after allowable expenses or before? I.e is it a profit figure or an income figure

I think the word income is used incorrectly on the HMRC website.

Many thanks!
