Smart Save

Options
Hi, Im trying to move a sizeable amount to a Smart Save 1 year fixed account. They asked me to provide a Uk based current account which is in my name & that can accept 'Faster Payments' . I have now supplied 3 accounts that fit that criteria which have all failed to be verified. Ive been in touch through webchat & although very polite, their response is less than helpful & continue to suggest providing another account. Is this a sign to stay clear from these guys or Im i doing something wrong?

Allica, Close Brothers and Cynergy are all offering the same (or higher) rate for a 1 year fix so I would just go with one of them if Smartsave are being awkward. That's presuming there's no fundamental reason why your nominated account(s) might be rejected again that you can think of ?

Are these with mainstream banks or 'challengers'?

  • Just to check this isn't the issue - do you already have one smartsave account?   As for me, it eventually transpired they couldn't handle a person having more than one fixed rate bond, which seemed a bit crazy. Thought I'd mention it just in case.

I just tried to open a Smart Save account but it refuses my bank details.  When I read further it states that some accounts that were opened before 1998 cannot be recognised. Is this crazy or what? Surely it shows consistentcy in your banking.

I had a similar issue with Charter when selecting a current account I'd held since the mid 1990s as my nominated account, so it can happen occasionally.
