Haven't kept any record of money spent - help

Not sure if this the right place to post this, so feel free to move as applicable.

Ever since I've had kids, I have spent money whether it be a cheque, cash or credit card I haven't kept a record of it !

Where do I start getting things back on track ? Have downloaded the budget planner, but not sure where to start with it and whether that is the best place for me start??

What would be my starting balance? When i get my bank statement through, have no idea whether it is correct:eek:

    Can anyone help?
  • I've just had a look at the Budget Planner on MoneySavingExpert, and I can't see anything about a starting balance. It looks like a tool for analysing your income and spending in an average month, to see if you can afford your lifestyle, but it can't keep track of the money you've actually spend (ie individual transactions). What do you want to use it for?

I use Microsoft Money for keeping track of my spending, and I find it very useful. Whenever I spend money from a bank account or credit card I enter the transaction into Money and categorise it, and then I can see charts showing me what I have spent my money on and if I have spent more or less than my budget. It can automatically download transaction details from some banks' websites. You can get a copy from www.Play.com for £17.99
