House Renting

I currently have my own house, I am moving into a house that I am jointly purchasing with my partner. I know things can go wrong in relationships, is there anything i can do to say my partner wont have a claim on my own house which I  will be renting out.

    Don't get married! Sorted.

You also don't have any claim on his property either - presuming you're not paying towards the mortgage or major works/improvements. Plus you may have a long wait to evict any tenants, and could end up having to find somewhere to stay...

Assuming you are not married, why would your partner have any claim on a property owned soley by yourself?

    Do you have kids?

It all depends on what the individuals actually do & any written agreement.

Simple example: Joint purchase: Informal agreement that everything with be shared/paid for & split 50/50.  But then one partner stops work, watches tele all day, does nothing to help.  They have 3 kids.  They marry: scroat partner pays for nothing, other partner pays everything - mortgage, utilities, insurance, food & clothing for kids etc etc etc...  10 years later layabout wants his 50% share... How do you think a judge would split everything??? I kinda hope he gets very little.

When you discussed this with your partner, what did you each conclude??
