Some logical help - will it fit?! Ikea Kallax

Guys, I have a cupboard I was intending to put an IKEA kallax into. It all seemed perfect, but at the 11th hour I think it might not work!

The cupboard measures 77.5cm wide and the kallax 77cm. Bingo I thought!..

The architrave around the door to the cupboard means the opening is 67 cm or so, 10cm less...

Obviously I can turn the built unit side on, but logically I'm thinking I'll not be able to turn it round to fit, will I?

Thoughts much appreciated..

I won't take the architrave and door surround off though, I'd pull half the wall with me I sense, and the room is freshly decorated.

I've looked at kallax online and I don't think they'd be able to be built *in* the cupboard either :/

The cupboard has three walls, two are *very thin* internal plasterboard and the other is rock solid - the outside of the house.

The unit will house vinyl, so will be *very* heavy!

Are you looking at the Kallax that is 77 wide and 39cm deep?  Cut out a rectangle of paper or card or something in those dimensions and see if you can put it into the cupboard while keeping it horizontal.

Yeah, I think the answer would be a no. I made some shelves from a kitchen worktop for a bottom part, they had to be tilted on end a bit and pushed down firmly to fit :/

I suspect that may be my answer!

Now, perhaps I can use it the other way round in the cupboard if it's deep enough (I sense it probably isn't, I seem to recall it's about 70cm deep!

    Arrgh!

It wont fit as the diagonal is about 86 and you would need that width to turn it

Would it be possible to assemble it upright in the cupboard?

Ah, taking me back to maths GCSE, working out the hypotenuse :)

The good news is cupboard is just over 80 deep. So, whilst it'll not look as good for vinyl display it should work!

Ha ha! Very good. Nope, for my sins it's approximately 1700 records mostly 91-95 oldskool hardcore, with a bit of drum n bass and jungle for good measure!

1,700 records is a sizeable collection.

There has been an astonishing revival in Vinyl in recent years.

I am 70 now and first started buying vinyl records in the late 1960s. I switched to CDs in the mid 1980s and eventually sold my circa 350 vinyl LPs in the early 2000s.

I'm 40 now and started about 25 years ago probably! Most of the collection came from when I was at uni in London in2001-4. But yes, you're right, a huge resurgence, lots of limited edition, colours, splatter, picture disk, detailed artwork etc now too. Most of my collection is black vinyl with white labels and handwritten titles!

Just remembered that I have Kallax shelving in my spare room/office. You'll want to strengthen the shelves - mine are bowing noticeabley when about 1/2 full of paper files.
