Refusing inheritance and deprivation of assets

I used to work in this area. At the time the average life span of a care home resident was around 2 years. However there was a massive variance, even within my own local authority. Some people would die within hours of entering the care home. There was one case where the residents son helped take her there and she died before he'd even left. On the other end of the scale we had someone who lived for 34 years in a care home and this excludes people who needed care in their younger years.
Old people don't move well though so deaths in the first few weeks were common. In scenarios where a care home closed and the residents had to move elsewhere it was accepted around 20% of them would die due to the move.
Ultimately everyone is unique and there's no real way of predicting how long someone will live, care home or not.2 -
Thank you for all your comments. Both my parents made LPA's for property & finance and for health & welfare several years ago so there is no complication there. My mother didn't much in the way of savings when she made her will 40+ years ago so leaving my father what she had made sense then. She inherited nearly all of it when my grandparents died which is another reason my father does not think he is "entitled" to it.0
