Trip.com extortionate luggage fees

The reason people would be tempted to book through sites like trip.com is because they offer "transfer protection" for multiple interconnecting flights. I'm not sure how good this protection is in reality. Ie say you want to fly to Spain but your airport doesn't fly directly there, you can go via another airport and take two flights. These sites appear as ticket options on skyscanner and it all looks fantastic. I don't know if really you have any more protection than if you booked directly with both airlines. As for adding baggage, trip.com charge a fee for this which works out more than with the airlines online and I don't know if you can add the bags online with the airline directly if trip.com doesn't give you the booking ref0

Just a thought - but at that price travel out with just hand luggage. You could buy a case and new clothes for less than £500 - and you can bring it all back.
