Non UK resident trying to open a UK bank account

I write on behalf of my boss, who is a Swedish national with a UK working permit, that has been sent a UK cheque by HMRC. In Sweden the banks do not accept cheques (haven't for 15 years), and therefore I need to create a UK bank account for him, in order to pay the cheque in. Can anyone help me in suggesting a bank account that will accept a Swedish national, and does anyone know if HMRC have other payment methods?
Thanks

Nationality is broadly irrelevant, its where they are domiciled that will matter.
Assuming they arent a UK resident then you are probably limited to the offshore/expat options offered from the likes of HSBC and Barclays however these are typically aimed at the wealthier end of the market and most want a £100,000 deposit or such. They may be able to get an account open, cheque cashed, money taken before they hit the deadline for meeting the requirements but it'll be a fair amount of hassle to do.0 -
Does below help?

According to the above, it is possible to open a Monzo account without UK address requirement.
Apparently it is possible to pay a cheque into Monzo.

He could try Lloyds as well.

HMRC will pay tax refunds directly into a nominated bank account, but I think you may need a personal tax account accessed via a Government Gateway ID to set this up, which may not be accessible to a foreign national.VeryanP said:does anyone know if HMRC have other payment methods?0
