In the years ahead it will be interesting to see if mental health issues, ever on the increase will have a big impact with the statisticians due to all these rabbit style hutches (new build houses to you and me) being built across England’s green and pleasant land and the propendency of some people, aka neighbours, to be totally and utterly selfish.

Yes, you're probably right but not many people can even afford to buy those rabbit style hutches of which you speak nowadays. Some neighbours have always been, and probably always will be, nuisances, I lived in a property where there were more nuisances than there were decent people and it really did get to me, mentally. Especially when I was actually shouted at in the street. I never did find out why. Talk about moronic behaviour.  I feel I was very fortunate to be able to move away and now live in a lovely rural setting with very kind and considerate neighbours. It's difficult to believe that I'm still living in the same city sometimes, there's such a difference in environments. And it's amazing the difference it made to my mental health to get away.

We visited Sandbanks a while ago to go to Brownsea Island.  We had a look at the “posh and expensive” houses which were fairly close together.  At that time Sandbanks was one of the most expensive place on the planet to live.   :D  Just glorified rabbit hutches.

Report the issues to Environmental Health
I'd second this, regardless of it being a business or not, reporting them to the council should make a difference. In a street I used to stay in there were a few 'noisy neighbours' the only one I'm aware anyone had any success in getting them moved was via Environmental Health for a mechanic who didn't have as many cars being worked on but their garden resembled a scrapyard.

I've lived in a flat above a shop, middle terraced house, ground floor flat (block of 4) and semi detached house.
The latter was the absolute worst in terms of noise due to the neighbours we had.

We did have several issues in the past, they built an extension without letting us know, which I know they didn't have to tell us but would have nice to know that we were in for weeks of power tools and dust etc until the late hours of the summer.

They then redid their garden with brickwork etc...same again...they then undid it all a few months later.

The way our houses are set up is we have their garage in front of our front window offset, our garage is also joined. They use the roof space in their garage and a few years ago we had some ivy growing into the their roof which they asked if we could get rid of it, it was politely asked and we did get rid of it, however since then things just rapidly went down hill with the noise etc from them, wouldn't be any issues at all if it wasn't a continuous thing in the summer until the late hours.
