in addition to the passenger attestation form the airline will require the vaccine record to be either uploaded in advance or checked at the airport desk

I'm not suggesting that anyone should lie but how would they know if someone is vaccinated?  I traveled to Canada a few months back and nothing was said anywhere on the airline sight or elsewhere about needing proof of anything.  OK - different country and different airline but still!!  And the little card I have (or had) with my vaccine details was so low tech anyone could have forged it.
Not sure when you travelled but Canada now does not have any Covid-19 related entry restrictions (unless travelling from China/Hong Kong/Macao)

The USA however does still require travellers to be vaccinated and provide proof of that (unless you meet a very strict list of exemptions and can provide proof).

The little card is not a vaccination certificate.  For international travel the acceptable proof is the NHS certificate either on the mobile app or in PDF form, although most major destinations have lifted the requirements unlike the USA.

Depends which way you enter the country. Lots of documented examples, inc. from acquaintances and coworkers of mine, have said anyone entering the USA via the southern border is not subject to the same requirements. or indeed, any requirements. You might recall that Biden made a priority and headline policy of his campaign throughout 2020, the opening of the southern border.
