Hi all,
So it's been 10 years (!) since I got my driving licence, so I need to apply for a photo renewal.
I can't do it online as my passport is in my old married name & different to my driving licence (didn't see the point in spending £75+ to update my name if I wasn't planning on going abroad)
Tried to get it done in branch but the ipad thingy they use wasn't working, and there is no closer location.
So I'm stuck with filling in the form. (Last time I did this to update my address they changed my nationality to German)

The question I have is...
Do I need to send off my birth certificate as proof of identity?
Note E says I just need to have a new photo (which doesn't need counter signing), current photo card and the fee.
I'd rather not send it, for chance of it getting lost. But I don't want to not send it, in case I'm supposed to!

Thankees in advance

Never ever send off personal documents no matter how much various government, council and companies say they want them even though they may insist they will not get lost - They will. You do not need to send your Birth Certificate when renewing your driving licence, if they want a new photo they will say so but these days thay access your passport (if you have one) and use that photo.1

As previously mentioned, you do not need to prove your ID when renewing a photo driving licence. Documents are only needed if you are applying for your first licence or when you need to change your name on the licence.

All you need is a photo. They already know your identity.1
