Claiming PPI

Options
I previously made a claim to Nationwide Building Society in 2013 as I have a Mortgage, Credit Card and had 2 loans since 1999. I received correspondence then that I was not missold PPI. I received a telephone call last week from Fair Trade Practice, 3 Whittle Avenue, Fareham saying that I can still get a refund. They have sent me a form to sign to allow them to act on my behalf and said there are no terms and conditions. Can someone advise. I thought cut off point to claim PPI was August 2019?

It has passed and it won't be a PPI missale complaint.

However, some CMCs are trying plevin claims and according to their website, that is what they are attempting.  Basically, rejections from 2017 onwards auto-checked for Plevin on rejection complaints.  Firms also went back and wrote to people where it may have applied as well (although typically that was only as far back as complaints rejected after 2015.

For plevin to apply, you had to have had borrowing after 6th April 2007 due to a change in consumer credit act 2006.  Any existing borrowing that was repaid prior to 6th April 2008 didnt qualify for plevin refunds.    Mortgages could also be outside of that date as well as many didnt fall under the consumer credit act at all or until later.  However, mortgage PPI commission was typically under the threshold for refunding.

You can do it yourself by asking nationwide to review your rejected PPI complaints and check if a plevin refund applies.  That is all you need to say.

I would like advice re PPI. At the time of claiming, I did fill out a couple of claim forms but had little information & thought I had never paid anything. The companies who researched came back with no information. (I no longer have the companies info) Since then I have been sorting the attic & came across our mortgage papers from 1984.  On reading them I understand that we could not have the mortgage unless we took out insurance. The initial building society was taken over and this was repeated three more times.  (Although I think we might have paid it off by the time Nationwide took over) Our mortgage changed with the building societies.  I presume it’s too late but thought no harm in asking! Thank you for any advice.
  • It's too late.

But in the plus side, if you couldn't have the mortgage without the PPI, then you weren't mis sold.

Thank you Morning coffeeIV for your prompt reply. Yes getting a mortgage in 1984 was difficult & would probably have signed anything to get one!

    a) you are way past the deadline
    b) what you found in the 1984 papers isnt PPI.

That is correct. In the 80s, the lenders would have insisted on life assurance.  Hoewver, that was always monthly premium and  standalone from the mortgage.       There was also MIG which you paid if you couldn't put sufficient deposit down.  However, that was to protect the lender. Not you.  Finally, buildings insurance (whcih is still mandatory today).   None of these are PPI.
