My motorola phone needs a replacement battery - the present one is "bulging" / knackered
How do I ensure that all of my data is backed up - to my PC ?
When plugged in via USB - I can see the phone icon in file explorer - but cant do anything with it
I believe that there is / used to  be some software that I could use to back it up ?
I can't locate it - any help please

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

As it is Android, back up using Google One.

For photos and documents stored on the phone, just connect to a PC and select the option to explore the files when it connects, copy them to your PC as required.

Photos may already be syncing with Google Photos depending on what you have set up, but I also transfer them to my PC and then to a standalone backup drive.

  • Is the phone signed into a Google account? If so, and the backup options are all "On" (Settings, System, Backup) then all should be backed up to the Google cloud.

If you want to back up to a PC then instructions are here

    I prefer a manual backup

@MouldyOldDough which is fine until you forget to do it and consequently lose something important.

Do both, two backups to two different destinations is always better than one.

If you use Whatsapp, make sure that's backed up regularly - my 'auto' back up is rather unreliable on my Moto

On the 'phone, you have to open up settings, then connected devices, then USB, and tell it you want file transfer, it defaults to "charging"
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Can I ask why? If I lost all my old WhatsApp messages, it wouldn’t be a problem.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Well, the thread is about the concern about losing stuff off your phone when the OP replaces the battery, so thought I'd give the heads up to everyone.
The messages are/were important to me.
