Internet dropouts while phoning

The problem below has happened a couple of times now.
Whilst using my Motorola G7 power as a hotspot, the internet connection is cut when I make a phone call.
This causes a problem when I'm discussing a laptop website problem with the sites customer services.
Is this a feature of mobiles, or is there a way I can make a phone call while I'm using my laptop on the web?

Is this a dual sim phone? You may need to enable VoLTE if it isn't:.Should be noted mobile phones aren't really designed for long term use as a hotspot, that's what Mi-Fi, dongles and 3G routers are for.0

I haven't heard of this before, but on investigation there doesn't seem to be an option for Enhanced 4G LTE on my phone (not dual sim).
Is this absolutely necessary to be able to use both a hot-spot and the phone at the same time?
I'm only a light internet user, so using a hot-spot has proved very useful.0 -
Depending on your provider you may need to check if there's something you need to enable on your account. Vodafone for example has an option for Data Calling which needs enabling if it hasn't already been done so. This assumes of course you are on a 4G device and connected to a 4G signal. The problem is caused because of a limitation on 3G, and without the VoLTE support its always going to do this:But to answer "is this absolutely necessary" - yes.

As @Neil_Jones says, VoLTE is in the gift of your network - it's certainly available on the G7 Power.
Just tried mine with a couple of different sims
1p Mobile - 4G calling shown in status bar (+ wi-fi calling)
3 Data Reward - Nothing
RWG - Nothing (although Wi-Fi calling switch appears even though RWG don't offer it yet).
Vodafone PAYM - Nothing (everything enabled at Vodafone end).
"Provisioning" of these services is pretty much a done deal, if it doesn't work now then don't hold your breath, especially on a phone that is more than a couple of years old.
What network are you using?0 -
In my Network settings I see:
Preferred network type
4G, 3G, 2 G
which appears as enabled (with a control to disable it?)
So I interpret that it would use 4G if available.
That link is very useful.
As I've only needed to do this twice, in about two years, I will keep the link for the next time I need the facility.0 -
I'm using EE via PlusNet.

There's the issue, Plusnet doesn't support VoLTE (or wi-fi calling).goodValue said:I'm using EE via PlusNet.1 -
I only heard about VoLTE today, so it seems I'll have to do some background reading.0
