My rights for refund by not accepting delivery

Hi, I ordered an item on eBay. I needed it by a certain date. Originally it was supposed to arrive between 14-16 March. However, now it's 18 March. If it doesn't arrive today, I will have to order from another supplier and get Sunday delivery - tomorrow. I need this for a project which has a schedule.

I am assuming the item will eventually arrive. And then I'll need to incur postage cost to send it back, If I refuse to accept delivery of the item, I assume the item will go back to the seller. Will it risk me getting my refund? Do you think it could delay my refund? Is it okay and acceptable not to accept delivery?

Was delivery by a certain date a condition of the sale?

Why not ask the seller what their policy is for rejected deliveries?

The buyer refused delivery of the item

Covered: The item arrived with postage cost still owing because the seller didn't apply enough postage

Not covered: The buyer refused delivery for any other reason

They will however cover for the item arriving after the ETA, you have to accept delivery then open a return stating the item didn't match the description and state in the comments box that it arrived after the ETA:

The item arrived after the latest estimated delivery date

Covered: The return is treated as if the item didn't match the listing.

With this option the seller will have to cover the return.

Hi, I also run an online shop, so I do try and see from both points of view. Firstly, the seller has not responded to my last email and now I have sent a second. No, as you can appreciate, like 99.9% of online purchases there is no date condition on the sale. 

However, I do have the answer I was looking for from @the_lunatic_is_in_my_head

You may not get the opportunity to refuse delivery is the courier just leaves it on your doorstep!

Ebay doesn't differentiate.  The money back guarantee applies to a buyer that doesn't receive the item (or in this case received it after the expected delivery date) as per post by Lunatic.
