Travel insurance for British Citizen living in UAE

Hello everyone,

I am a British Citizen who has been living in the UAE for the past couple of years. This is my first visit to the UK and wondered if I need any travel insurance. I want to make sure I am covered for any flight cancellations as reading about strikes etc. Not worried about medical insurance as I already have UAE medical coverage as part of my employment contract. I assume that as a British Citizen, I would be covered by the NHS?

Any help would be appreciated.

Not necessarily true, you need to be ordinarily resident for treatment. Sure this applies to brits returning for visits

    People living outside the EU

People who live outside the EU, including former UK residents, are not automatically entitled to free NHS care. They should make sure they are covered by personal health or travel insurance so that they can recover from their insurer any treatment costs that they are required to pay. They will be charged at 150% of the NHS national tariff, unless an exemption applies to them or the service they are accessing, or they are covered by a reciprocal healthcare agreement between the UK and their country.

    ......................

    Exemptions

There is no charge for certain types of treatment such as A&E outpatient treatment, treatment for infectious diseases specified in the regulations, treatment of sexually transmitted infections and family planning services.................................

Since you live in the UAE you should buy travel insurance on sale there.

You are at particular risk of disruption to public transport on the way to airports, which could cause you to miss your flight.

And as others have posted you are not really covered for non-emergency care by the NHS.
