Thankyou for all your valued comments all of which are understood, the one about taking the tv and aerial to a good signal area and getting the channels logged, then returning the tv back to the poor signal area and using it like that. Surely not?0

Why not? As long as you tune it in when receiving the signal from the same transmitter that covers the other location the tuning information will be valid. The frequencies don't change unless you receive from a different transmitter.

Depends where the transmitter or repeater is. Tune into one which may not be the one you actually want. Of course should they move beds or wards/rooms you would need to start all over again.0

If you've already done the tuning then per my original post, with digital tv there's less chance of it working than with analogue. But it's worth a go.1
