  • Thankyou for all your valued comments all of which are understood, the one about taking the tv and aerial to a good signal area and getting the channels logged, then returning the tv back to the poor signal area and using it like that. Surely not?

Why not?  As long as you tune it in when receiving the signal from the same transmitter that covers the other location the tuning information will be valid. The frequencies don't change unless you receive from a different transmitter.

On the few occasions I have wanted to plug something in at a hospital it has required certifying first although it is a long time ago.

Taking a TV away and tuning is not a sure thing. Depends where the transmitter or repeater is. Tune into one which may not be the one you actually want. Of course should they move beds or wards/rooms you would need to start all over again.

The point is that once it's tuned the stations in, when you go back to the lower signal area instead of repeatedly hunting in the wilderness hoping that the aerial is pointing the right way and picking up enough signal to lock in and store the available channels, you now know that Ch 1 is [probs] BBC1, so you can put the tv on that and wave the aerial about till you get an acceptable picture, if there is enough signal.

If you've already done the tuning then per my original post, with digital tv there's less chance of it working than with analogue. But it's worth a go.
