I had a ccj issued in 2012 and this fell off in 2018 however the company has started reporting missed payments from Feb 2023 to my credit report for the same debt . Is this legal . I have never contacted the company I  relation to this debt however 5 years after the ccj fell off they are now reporting it as missed payments on my file for the same amount they took me to court for .

It's unusual for a water company to report at all.

    Which company? Which CRA?

When did you cease to have an account with the water company?
  • The account was closed in 2012 and took to court in 2012 and the ccj fell off in 2018 . Its northumbrian water
  • CRA is credit karma / trans Union

The important principle is that data should be recorded accurately. Entries should drop off 6 years after they are defaulted or settled. So NW shouldn't be reporting missed payments, on the face of it, for an account closed 11 years ago

The correct way to object is to complain to NW and if they refuse to change, refer their final decision to the Information Commissioner and/or FOS.

Now that may open you up to demands for payment as the ccj doesn't cease to exist just because it hits the 6-year mark.

If this isn't being recorded on Experian and Equifax you might want to just ignore it.
