Unable to fit smart meter - what will happen now?

My energy company e-mailed me a few weeks ago to say that my meters were "approaching their certification date" and needed to be replaced. They would be replaced with smart meters and would be fitted where the existing meters are currently sited. Meter day dawns, engineer visits, he can't site them where the old ones are -…

If you want to know for certain, ask your supplier when the meter certification runs out. If it's a few years off, nothing needs doing for now. If it's soon, they'll need to replace them somehow - with refurbished non-smart presumably if that's the only thing that will fit in the space.
