What mitre saw?

Hi all,

So I'm in the market for a mitre saw. Never owned one before. DIYer, but thinking of future-proofing to an extent, for larger jobs. So, I'm in the market for a sliding mitre saw.

I think it's a toss up between the Makita LS0815FLN/2 or the Metabo KGS216M.

https://www.toolstop.co.uk/metabo-kgs216m-laser-slide-compound-mitre-saw-240v-p72062/

Both have a 216mm blade, both a 65mm depth of cut, both 305 width of cut, both have a work light, both have a laser. Both have trench cutting facilities, though have read the Metabo one is a little flimsy (the metal stopper is flimsy). Both have a 3 year warranty too.

I've a few vouchers lined up with Screwfix, which means (if I buy before this Sunday!), I can get it down from £310, to around £260. The Metabo is a mere £160.

All of my power tools are Makita, with the exception of a Bosch jigsaw. Always had a good experience with Makita. How are Metabo? I've heard good things. But, do understand that this particular model is an "entry-level". But, does do everything the same as the Makita!

Will the Makita be a superior build quality and better / more accurate cut?

Anyone have any experience with either of these?

Thanks in advance!

The second one is 'Compound' - big difference. Two variable angles, not one.

They're both compound. Just the Screwfix link doesn't specify.

Here is the same machine, but on the Toolstop website:

Just  couple of things to look out for.

First, dust extraction - does it have a port? I have my Henry hooked up to my Evolution R255SMS+ and although it doesn't collect everything, it keeps very fine dust down to a minimum. The little dust bags supplied with most saws are just silly.

Second, a brake. This is where the saw blade is made to slow down fairly quickly when power is removed at the end of a cut. For safety, you should wait until the blade stops rotating at the end of each cut (and especially when using a backstop). A mitre saw without some sort of brake would be a pain.

The first one you list says "no brake".

Hmm. Is a brake that essential? It is simply a case of waiting for the blade to stop spinning (a few seconds)?

After doing some quick searching, seems brakes on mitre saws are notorious for going wrong anyway!

Takes 4.5 seconds for the Evolution blade to stop apparently.
I’ve found a Henry hoover nozzle is quite easily fixed onto dust extraction spouts with duct tape.
Not sure if they are a standard size but it was far from straightforward trying to find fittings or adapters for my DeWalt circular saw. They’re available on eBay but not guaranteed to fit properly.
