Couple Administrative Earnings Threshold

Dear all,

I work full time with a minimum of 43 hours per week. My wife is does not work. So far she has not been required to search for work as I earn way above the required earning income. Some months I do get a nil award as I receive a higher income.

Will the proposed changes result in my work being requested to look for work?

Im on a shared ownership property and universal credit amount between £200- £700 is received by me accordingly to the income.

Thanks in advance

Yes, under the changes to remove the couple AET rate, she will be expected to attend appointments and look for work. However, the government have not yet confirmed when these new changes will take effect.
The Government have published costings of the various measures outlined in the budget, and the following document (page 13) shows no cost in 2023/24 and costs beginning in 2024/25 suggesting this measure may not be introduced for another year (April 2024):

Yes, you will receive an automated message in your journal if you are going to be impacted by changes to the AET informing you that an appointment will be booked shortly.
