Asus vivobook wont startup. Hard drive?

My Asus K513EA has this morning decided to not start up. It's only 14 months old.

It gets to the password, and the keyboard will not imput anything. Anyway, I tried to do a clean install of windows 11 and it says it cant find a drive.

Would that seem like a hard drive failure? It's a M.2 SSD 512 GB.

I was wondering about getting an cheap enclosure adapter. If anyone can recommend one? Would that then tell me if the hard drive was the problem. There are some things on there I'd like to access if possible but It wouldn't be the end of the world if not.

Not sure what else to try.

It sounds like the drive is working if Windows boots as far as the login screen and asks for your password but then you cant' type anything in.
So that sounds more like a keyboard issue than the hard drive.
Click on the 'Ease of Access' button on the login screen and pull up the on-screen keyboard.
You should then be able to use that to enter your password.

Can you borrow an external keyboard that plugs into a USB port and try that?
If the external keyboard works then it's time to investigate what is wrong with the built in keyboard and fix it or replace it.
It could simply be that a lead has come loose (has it been banged or dropped recently?).
You'll find videos online that show you how to get to the keyboard, so you can check the lead or replace the whole keyboard if needed.
From the few I've just looked at that model isn't the simplest to get to the keyboard on, so if you are not sure about tackling it yourself then it's probably time for a trip to your local computer shop.

It could also be that the keyboard driver has got corrupted.
If you can get logged into Windows using the on screen keyboard then you can troubleshoot and/or update the keyboard driver.
This is a decent video on how to fix various keyboard problems:

    Thanks for the reply.
I got the onscreen keyboard up and signed in, but the desktop would not respond at all. Wireless mouse didn't work. I guess this rules out faulty hard drive then?
I do remember last time I shut down there was a windows update to install, maybe it's corrupted some drivers.
I'll try and get a usb keyboard and try that.

Not sure why I couldn't reinstall windows 11 though?

Can you boot into bios and use the keyboard to navigate around ?

The reason you can't install W11 is that you probably don't have the correct HDD drivers on the usb stick

If you can get into bios, check.the HDD is not set to RAID as these drivers are not packaged with W11. If it is, turn RAID off

Thanks. I can get into the bios. Followed some guides & it says Non-RAID in physical disk info.

    The ssd is Intel SSDPEKNW512G8
I've tried downloading a few different drivers, put them on the usb stick but during the W11 install they are not recognised. Probably not the correct ones.

Does it have a recovery partition ?

    https://www.asus.com/uk/support/FAQ/1012002/

If you recover the original image (which has the correct drivers in) then you can upgrade to W11.

Edit: the drivers will be for the disk controller, not the actual HDD. Have you looked on the ASUS site

Thank you. I found the correct drivers & managed to reset following your link.
