Love Holidays & Ryanair

Options
I’m looking for some clarification on who is responsible for the refund of flights.  My son booked a package holiday with travel insurance through Love Holidays however his wife now needs to have an operation and cannot go in holiday through medical advice.  He rang Love Holidays and they have said he has to contact Ryanair to claim back his flight refund.  If he booked the whole package through them and also took out their travel insurance surely LH are responsible for contacting Ryanair for a refund.  Does anyone have the answer?  Thanks in advance.

Loveholidays, as the package organiser, are responsible for handling the cancellation - it would be unusual for there to be a refund from Ryanair anyway, so those costs would typically need to be reclaimed via the insurance.

Would you not just make a claim via your travel insurance?  They would need a cancellation invoice from LH for the claim.
