How do I set up a joint account in a banking App?

My wife and I have a number of joint accounts that we opened together many years ago when High St branches were still around. These days we do all our banking through banking apps. Whilst the apps allow us to both access existing joint accounts, they do not appear to provide any facility to allow us to open new joint accounts or make existing individual accounts joint.
Is this your experience or am I missing something?

I don't think there's anything inherently preventing this (except maybe that apps will always be geared to the most common of tasks rather than every single interaction customers may wish to have with a bank), but which banks have you tried and failed with?1

It varies between banks. Modern banks like Starling, Monzo and Marcus let you open joint accounts in the app very easily. With Santander ypu can notionally open a joint account in the app, although it actually takes you to the mobile website. With Natwest you have to open an individual account first, and then add the secomd person, I'm not sure if you can do that in the app or if it has to be via the website. Halifax are very acrhaic and you can't even open a joint account on their websit, you have to go to a branch instead, we gave up when we wanted a joint account and saw we had to do that and went with Monzo instead.

ThnaksYou have to open their joint accounts on their website instead of in the app, but once open you can use the app to manage.a joint account. See the FAQ here.

I’ve opened joint accounts, both current and savings, with Nationwide via their app.1

I think you will find no bank does joint apps. Each party has to have their own app & login details for the accounts.diystarter7 said:Hi

So your app will show, your sole account & joint accounts. Just the same as other parties will for theirs. But you can not see any sole accounts for the other party in your app.Life in the slow lane1 -
It certainly does vary, Starling do joint account opening online however they dont allow you to convert an individual account to a joint one. Unless they are one that the OP happens to already bank with, and it doesnt seem like it, then its not a problem but just adding for completeness as they also asked about conversion of single accounts.Rob5342 said:It varies between banks.
