Pre-existing conditions travel insurance

I have incurable cancer alongside another few common ailments and have always had annual cover with my Nationwide bank account. They have always covered all my conditions excluding my cancer, which is not a problem as it is not something that is likely to cause an emergency whilst on holiday. I have paid an extra premium of around £130 a year to cover this. When I called to renew this this year I was told that they have changed their policy and now if they can't cover 1 condition they wont cover any. I have been looking on various other sites, all the comparison sites say I cannot be insured. The quote i did get was thousands. I don't know what to do. I have my ghic card and have no intention of not travelling, and am very happy to pay a reasonable price. If anyone has any advice I'd be very grateful.

That’s a sad situation you find yourself in. Have you tried contacting the insurers directly rather than running your details through comparison sites? Perhaps try speaking to them, you may get a sympathetic ear on the other end of the line that could offer assistance.I’ve a couple of pre-existing medical conditions and I’m with AllClear.0

Have a look at Cancer Research UK's website which gives suggestions when all else fails!0

Also Macmillan cancer charity has contacts0

I've had a look at the Which magazine report on travel insurance with medical conditions and the following companies have come up.
Saga (directly from their website only)
All Clear Platinum
Free Spirit Flex Gold
Holiday Extras Cruise Gold
Staysure Comprehensive
Able to Travel Gold
Good to Go Extra Gold
There are many more, but the above should hopefully be of use.

"I have my ghic card and have no intention of not travelling, and am very happy to pay a reasonable price."Going abroad without travel insurance is tempting fate - you could (God forbid) require treatment for something unrelated to your condition.0

Regarding GHIC my allclear policy states in the policy bookletWhen travelling to a country in the European Union (EU) you should receive inpatient treatment in a public hospital. You must therefore obtain a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC)................................................If you are admitted to a public hospital, you should present your GHIC / EHIC to the hospital; if you are unable to do so, you must co-operate with the medical assistance department in order to obtain one.

The GHIC card entitles you to get emergency or necessary medical care for the same cost as a resident in the country you are visiting. You may have tp pay for some servcies.
It will not cover travel home if you need if an escort is needed or air ambulance needed.
It will not cover extra accommodation costs if you are not able to return home when originally meant to.0 -

What exactly are pre-existing conditions? Do minor problems for which you have no requirement for any medication count as pre-existing conditions?0
