Whatever the rights and wrongs, I'd counsel against making a mountain out of a molehill here. An oil leak from the sump is either going to be from the sump plug or the gasket; either is a straightforward and cheap fix. Just book it in somewhere, get the work done and have the oil and filter changed at the same time - you may as well, given that the engine will have to be drained.0

After inspection from a garage, who are specialists with the make of my van, it was evident that the bolts that fit the sump to the engine had been overtightened and snapped. They also found self tapping screws installed, which were clearly installed in attempt to secure the sump. In short he bodge it, and it's going to cost me just over £500 to fix.Ditzy_Mitzy said:Whatever the rights and wrongs, I'd counsel against making a mountain out of a molehill here. So unfortunately it isn't as straight forward to repair, so i will be looking to recover costs incurred.
