I am now 70 years old and I drive far less than I used to do when I was working. Sometimes a week or more passes when I do not drive at all and then that might be just a trip of a few miles to a supermarket and back.DullGreyGuy said:

Once you get to 65 and over premiums start going back up again... never to the levels of 18 year olds but it is notable increases (see https://www.statista.com/statistics/751199/average-car-insurance-cost-by-age/)
Similarly ultra low mileage is charged at a higher rate than those doing more miles. Insurance is priced on stats not logic but if you did want to rationalise it then if you dont drive enough your skills are simply not kept as fresh as someone who drives more. Going from commuting daily to hiring a car occasionally I certainly know my ability to judge gaps etc is less than it used to be.
I too feel that my driving skills are not as good as they once were.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -
And that can be precisely why claims experience are worse, people dont notice their own slow decline and so don't compensate by being more cautious.Belenus said:

Anyway, as previously mentioned, pricing isnt done on logic but basic statistics, when everything else is equal a 75 year old has on average a greater claims experience (frequency x cost) than a 55 year old (and both are better than a 20 year old). Similarly those doing 2,000 in their car a year are worse than those that do 5,000 and both better than someone doing 50,000. The why thats true is supposition.0 -
I have only had the car since i was 67! i had just retired ( i was WHITE VAN MAN ,service engineer on construction machines ,did about 30,000 miles a year ) will just have to pay and suck it up.DullGreyGuy said:
