Barclays travel pack plus - is the insurance good for USA?

Hi everyone,

we are visiting family in the USA this summer for a month and looking to buy travel insurance. The quotes we are getting are up to 10 x higher than what we paid in 2019. Naturally we are all 4 years older, however these quotes are a bit steep. MSE has recommended the Barclays Travel Pack Plus banking product where for £18 a month we can get travel and breakdown insurance as well as some airport lounge passes.

My question is about the travel insurance which is with Aviva and we want to ensure that this is a good insurance to use in the USA as we know medical expenses can be very high there.

So, does anyone have any experience of using and claiming for medical expenses with Aviva insurance (through the Barclays Travel Pack) when in the US?

Thanks!

The full terms are here, however Aviva are quite a good insurer and have paid the only claim I've needed to make with them without question (via another bank, it's free as part of an account I meet conditions on), even if I've never used them for the US. Note the policy document only covers trips up to 30 days, but can be extended for a fee.

The full terms are here. My insurance policy only has cover until 70 years, so this may from the wording of your post be something you will need to discuss directly with Barclays. This seems quite expensive way to cover it, but if it's suitable for your needs then may be worthwhile.

  • @CKhalvashi thanks for your response. Really helpful.

We have been looking at travel insurance quotes and have received quotes for a family of 4 of £400 to £900. So this is why we are looking at other options. In previous years our quotes were around £200 and have not made a claim nor have pre-existing medical conditions.

    Got you!

If you feel it's the right product for you then go for it, subject to meeting the terms and conditions of the policy.

Aviva underwritten policy for travel insurance I can personally recommend on the basis of the single claim I've had to make with them.
