Replacement Boiler
Hello,
I currently have an old Baxi Solo 2 40 PF and was looking to exchange this at some point this year with a like for like alternative. We are possibly looking to move at some point so don't want to spend a fortune. I had a look online but couldn't work out whether the Baxi is a System Boiler or a Standard Boiler.
If someone can point me in the right direction as to which it is and any not so expensive replacements it would be appreciated
Thanks

According to this webpage, your boiler is conventional one.

It is non condensing, so a replacement standard condensing boiler should give you some efficiency benefits.
However, if you think you are going to move in the next few years, then depending on your gas usage, you probably won't get a payback on replacing the boiler. (Unless any prospective buyers are put off by you having an old boiler in the house).
A quick Google search shows that 12kw standard gas boilers look to retail at between £900 and £1100 depending on make.
No idea what the cost for supply and fit would be. You are probably best asking for quotes from several installers then you will have a better idea of cost.
If there isn't a magnetic filter already installed on your system, most manufacturers will insist that one is fitted to maintain the warranty.
The lowest cost option would be to swap the boler on a like for like basis. ie stick with a conventional boiler. Changing to a system or combi will require more plumbing work and hence more expense.
I have no experience of gas boilers so I don't know which makes are seen to be more reliable than others and which manufacturers offer extended warranties.
Hopefully others with more knowledge will chip in with their thoughts.1 -
Is your pump inside the boiler or external0

The old Baxi Solo should still have a pilot light, so there will be already a substantial saving just from the saving here by replacing it with a modern one.
Different estimates are between 600 and 2500KWh of gas been used by the pilot light, that might more than £20 savings pe rmonth,1 -

Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1
