When is the guarantee start date?

Options
Hello,
I have recently been refused a claim under a two year guarantee for a faulty gas valve in my gas fire. The manufacturer (Crystal Fires) justified this by saying that the guarantee is based on date of manufacture of the gas valve not date of installation of the gas fire. Since the gas valve was manufactured more than two years ago, they are saying that I am outside of the guarantee period. Is this right? I have heard that guarantee start dates can vary e.g. date of purchase versus date of delivery, but never based on age of components! I'd be really grateful for any advice as it feel like Crystal Fires are trying to pull a fast one on me!
Thanks,
Sam

    This guarantee?

I can't see anything there suggesting the clock starts ticking at the date of manufacture.

Claiming a guarantee starts from date of manufacture is ridiculous.  A part could be sat in stock for months before it is used.  Clock should start ticking from the date of installation, assuming the same company supplies and fits.

Guarantees are on top of your statutory rights and so they can set any rules they want for it but they should be written down somewhere.

The terms linked to above doesnt state when the clock starts ticking but does include certain controls like you having to register it within 14 days of install and having it serviced with one part changed annually. Did you meet thse other requirements?

Your statutory rights are with the retailer not the manufacturer and those are certainly based on dates of purchase etc and not on manufacturing dates.
