If the OP doesn't want to use escalators at all, the direct Waterloo - Marylebone route by tube is out.0 -
I'd also recommend the "TFL Go" app for journey planning in London.0

baser999 said:@ Emmia, point taken, but have you ever experienced a central London bus at those times of day as a disabled pensioner? It’ll likely be busy, there’ll be no one offer you a seat, it’s uncomfortable. A taxi is door to door, perhaps 15 minutes v nearly an hour on buses, to include walking time, changes. OPs choice
I'd probably taxi if I was the OP, but it will be £20+ each way for the fare.
Edit: the OP specifically asked about the bus, not a taxi.0 -
Hello Copter,
Where does your journey start? (before Waterloo?). If you can come in to Victoria, for example, rather than Waterloo, then there's a direct bus from Victoria to Marylebone Station - number 2 bus - which stops right outside Marylebone Station0 -
When you board the 139 at Waterloo don't ask the driver to tell you which stop. Last time I was on a London bus the stops were announced over the bus system.
The bus turns right out of Oxford Street into Baker Street beside Selfridges. Heads up Baker Street, crosses the Marylebone Road (the main road you mentioned) then get off at the next stop opposite Baker Street Station.
Get off the bus, turn right then first left into Melcombe Street. Keep going straight and you will come to Marylebone Station.1 -
Getting back to the OP's question.... you need to get off at 'Baker Street Station'. The previous stop is 'York Street'.
After the 'York Street' stop the bus will pass a McDonalds (on the right) a Post Office (at 111 Baker Street) and Robert Dyas (on the left), cross the Marylebone Road (a major 4-lane road) and stop at Subway (the shop - not a tube station)!#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661 -

Ok, then clearly Waterloo is your best bet!Weymouth
Personally I would suggest you just get the Bakerloo Line from Waterloo to Marylebone.
London Underground staff can accompany you and your wife from ticket hall to platform at Waterloo and from Platform to ticket hall at Marylebone. This is a "turn up and go" service, i.e. you get to Waterloo and then ask the staff there to assist (at the Underground Station - not the National Rail staff). See here:
