Wanting to relocate but stuck on how best to do it

It is beautiful in a wild and windy freezing cold way, but I'm not a walker/paddle boarder/power kiter/cyclist or artist. I'd much rather have theatres, art galleries and good restaurants nearby! All of the taxi companies do the school runs so you can't get one if it coincides with 'school times'. I also miss multicultural society. Northumberland is also subject to haphazard house building and much of the open land with views is being developed, misplacing the wildlife here.
Good luck with your plans, might be worth joining the Facebook community page for the area you want. I was put off one area because of the crime. I wanted to go home to Twickenham but didn't have the budget, so looked at southern coastal towns. Broadstairs/Margate/Ramsgate in Kent, and Exmouth in Devon. Unfortunately my budget wouldn't run to a suitable property in either county. I feel lucky I've stayed put now because at 65 I've mysteriously developed some health issues unrelated to any life style choices, they've come out of the blue. I used to hear old women talking about them and think how boring, and now it's me! I've never even played tennis, but my elbow thinks I have!.

I would say be sure moving areas completely is something you want to do.
My sister was in the same situation as you - 50% shared ownership of a 1 bed house (in Surrey). She moved to the North East and bought a 3 bed semi, 5 years later is still not settled and somewhat regrets it. Although she did have a job lined up, she didn't know anyone remotely close. She has now made some friends but would still move back down south if she ever wins on the lottery!
I don't want to put a downer on your plans, but just make sure you fully consider.2 -
That must be hard for her, it takes so much effort, emotionally especially, to come to such a decision to move to somewhere completely new- Hope as time goes by she will feel more settled.
Not sure what your sister's reasons for moving were, just a change or to have more financially security, housing or other reasons (just thinking out loud, you don't have to say of course) but with me I do feel I have given my current place a decent shot, and the idea of living here for ever more I find depressing, as well as all the other factors like it makes more financial sense to me to try and buy outright, I will be able to walk most places, everything nearby etc, it's on a mainline train route so I can visit people easily and they me and so on, seems like all I can do is at least give it a go.0 -
Definitely give it a go TrueGreen, new beginnings and all that. Unfortunately I could only afford quite dodgy areas and was coming back from a late viewing in Kent when for one scary moment thought I was going to be mugged. I was in a rough area and frightened by two men that suddenly screamed to a halt alongside me in a van on a lonely farm road
Luckily they only wanted directions to Ramsgate.
And sorry your sister is suffering SallyDucati. We moved up to the NE with my husband's promotion, which he couldn't turn down. I have found people here very family focussed, and have hundreds of acquaintances, but no-one I would consider a friend. I'm not a supporter of the hunt or shoots and hadn't realised how both wildlife and domestic farm animals suffer at the hands of humans in the countryside. I don't want to be friends with people that follow these 'sports', which greatly limits my friend choices. Clubbing yes, 'cubbing', no.£216 saved 24 October 20141
