Thanks Coupon - will remove that. And keep the rest as it is

I don't understand why we are advised to not use MCOL portal for defence filing and use the CCBC email instead.

Because there is a word/character limit, insufficient for the use of all of the forum template defence, only part of your defence gets through to the court. On top of that, it trashes any formatting you put in to the defence to make it more easily readable.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Did you see this in the second post of the NEWBIES thread...
That nice red headline surely attracted your attention.   :)

That linked post by @bargepole explains why it is not a good idea to file a Defence via MCOL.

Also, if you were to try it, you would soon find out that the MCOL box simply isn't big enough.

Because the text boxes in the MCOL webpage are limited to 24 lines of 45 characters. That's a total of 1,080 characters, not words, unformatted. Even their own guidance info does not suggest using the form to file a defence:

    https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/478059/money-claim-online-user-guide.pdf

The defendant must submit a written response to the claim. Responses are usually submitted using the forms supplied in the claim pack, but can be filed in other written formats such as by email or in a typed statement.

The defendant can also file a response online. If the defendant submits their response online, you will be able to view a copy from the claim homepage. If the defendant submits their response by post or email the court will post you with a copy of the defence.

I personally do defences in the MCOL online site as it works where isnt a standard template and the defence is therefore writtten specifically for that site

It wont be be long before the old MCOL site is gone and its goes over to the .GOV where its all very different

It won't be too soon. That MCOL website is written with outdated code. Probably by some firm that used expensive consultants to persuade whichever public servants were involved that their bid for the contract to do so, would be the future of modern justice. Of course, it probably ran way over budget and never fully achieved its goal.
