  • As a perennial cold sore sufferer myself....use Compeed cold sore patches. About £5.75 ish for 15 (ish) they are complete pain free healing! Genius! One pack is enough for 2 attacks...change once a day...trust me!
Alternatively, you could poke forks in your eyes as well as vinegar on the cold sore AAARRGGHHH to both:eek:

Storage heaters...bl***y nightmare...the inventors should be tied to one, smothered in salt and left to become jerky! My first house had them in and I was NEVER warm....I used Calor gas heaters to supplement my heating, which was much cheaper than using electric heaters! I had 2 convector heaters in the bedrooms and a warm air fan in the kitchen and bathroom! Hmmm...toasty...NOT!;)
Set the storage heater to max input, and min output as another poster has suggested but they are rubbish!...I have just joined our local freecycle group actually and the stuff people are giving away is amazing...join and post a wanted notice...I'm sure someone can help, even if it's only on loan for a few months!

The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself. (Oscar Wilde);)
  • Some energy suppliers offer a 2 hour boost in the afternoon which can help.

You need to keep doors closed, seal up drafts. Modern night storage heaters can suffice but the house must be kept dry. Is the bathroom/shower ventilated. All that steam has to settle somewhere.

    Honest, try a dehumidifier.

There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.
  • My flat has ESH's and they are a bit useless. My mum got me a mini dehumidifier which has been a big help in the bathroom and it cost less than £20. I would defo advise u look for one of those!

I work for a company who administer a government grant to help people with heating and insulation. One contact we usually give out is the energy saving trust (0800 512 012) It's worth giving them a call for advice. They have a really useful website too.

I would try and prioritise heating certain rooms - I never bother with kitchen (heat themselves), bedrooms (extra blankets or hot water bottles if cold at night), hallways or bathroom (don't stay too long and open windows after showering etc to get rid of condensation). Try and get everyone to spend time in the warm living room rather than in their bedrooms - make sure there are draft excluders (kids might enjoy making these) and that windows are properly sealed.

scrummy mummy - I loved your comment about baking the storage heater inventors.
