Aviva - won't let me put my husband as main driver on the policy in my name and car

As above, he has his own policy, car and myself as a main driver, we did a car swap therefore I drive his more he drives mine more, didn't want to add another keeper on the DVLA doc....
Now my insurance is due, I own it and the policy is in my name, just need him on there as a main driver but they won't allow this the main driver has to be the policyholder/re keeper.
Anyone else come across this?

the keeper has no bearing on the insurance AFAIK

    from Aviva website FAQ

it does read as you cant be the policyholder and a named driver, looks like you need to have husband as policyholder and you as named driver, at least thats how I read it

What's the difference between a principal policyholder, a vehicle policyholder and a named driver?

The principal policyholder is the person who entered into the contract of insurance on behalf of themselves, each vehicle policyholder and each named driver. They’re the person who took out the policy and they can then choose who is a vehicle policyholder and who is a named driver.

The vehicle policyholder is nominated by the principal policyholder as being the person who drives the vehicle most often and earns the no claim discount.

Named drivers are additional drivers nominated by the principal policyholder who are entitled to drive the vehicle under the policy.

  • It's mad. WE both have out own policies NCB etc would be daft for me to lose that status, I emailed them and was told 2 different things, I will choose another provider instead.

Our car is in my wifes name but she has not driven since Covid. I have been named as main driver on the policy for years since we downsized to one car.

You 'd presumably first explore just switching the car insured under his policy so main driver and policyholder matched  and then insuring the car you are the main driver of in your own name with your own NCD again

Correct although some insurers like Aviva insist you are the owner and the policyholder so that wouldn't work.

You mean registered keeper rather than owner, or else they wouldn't insure anything on finance.

Very few care when you are talking about husband and wife (or husband and husband etc)
