Hello
wondering if someone can help me out! I checked my credit score and noticed a default from BT.
wondering if someone can help me out! I checked my credit score and noticed a default from BT.
It was my old address that was down for the default, it said from 2017 for £30.
I phoned BT to say I’ve not lived there for 5 years so I don’t even know what it is for since I’ve not had any letters etc.
I’m assuming letters have been getting sent to old address.
I’m assuming letters have been getting sent to old address.
So the default says that I’ve not paid it since November last year which I’m assuming that’s when they started sending letters for a debt from 2017.
I don’t have an idea what it could be for.

BT say there is no account in my name and can’t see any further back as it’s been so long, so I’m not sure how to find out how to pay this as I just want it off my account.
Does anyone know how I can do this 😩?
thanks
thanks

When you moved 5 years ago - did you have a BT account at that address - and when you left - did you close the account? When you moved to your new address did you still have BT services? Did you take out a new contract for a new phone line etc?If you happened to leave your last property, and not settle your final bill, and didn't use BT at your new property, and you'd not told them where you now lived, they'd not know where to send the bill. It would have been your responsibility to ensure that any contracts with the old property were properly cancelled and any payments to be made completed. If you happened not to pay your final bill, then there would have been a period of non-payment followed by a default, so is in essence an accurate record of events.Even if you paid the outstanding bill today, the default would remain.1

What date does the date of default show ?
It will remain for 6 years, then will be automatically removed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I agree with the above, its March now, complaints can take 12 weeks to be looked at and acted upon, by which time it will be June, and by the time any action is taken, the default will have dropped off your file naturally.
I`d let sleeping dogs lie on this one to be honest.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
