Building planter box

So I'm going to attempt building my own planter box for bamboo cause I can't seem to find one the right size or colour I need. We have a drill, a sander and a hand saw but I love doing things myself so want to give it a go!
Does anyone have any advice i.e. on what type wood to use? I'm assuming it needs to be lined as well?
Any advice welcome, thanks!

I would buy a suitable size and shape plastic planter, put drainage holes in that. Then build a wooden framework to suit the planter, that way the wood will last a lot longer and be easier to change or paint in the future.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke2

How important is 'looks'?If you do a Google images search for outdoor/DIY whatevs planters, you'll likely find some in the style you want to copy. Folk can then advise better.0

That's a good idea.

The other advantage is the plastic planter will contain the bamboo if it is a invasive variety.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke0

I regularly trawled the garden center. Found what I liked and measured, looked to see how it was made (you can take a photo now) and copied it to my own size.
Cost at center £109 for me£30
and some for a fruit cage.
I used tanalised tounge and grove. Made it easier for the clueless. And some battons. Builders merchants are cheaper for wood.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
