Builders gone our of business

We had an extension built about 18 months ago. The builders stopped trading not long after. They had some type of indemnity insurance which was one of the reasons we chose them. We have just been told by our water company that they plumbed our toilet, shower and washing machine into the wrong drain and it's contaminating a local brook so needs fixing. 😬
The insurance company say they will only deal with the builder, not us. The builder isn't remotely interested in helping us so we are stuck.
Any suggestions on how we go about resolving this rather than having to pay out hundreds of pounds to fix the builders error?

I would start by looking for your copy of the indemnity insurance.Snuzysue said:We had an extension built about 18 months ago. The builders stopped trading not long after. But if the builders are not trading any more, then there is no one to chase to sort this out, so I would suggest contacting your own insurance about it who might pay out, and start looking for another builder to resolve this.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
"Not trading" doesn't necessarily mean they can't be pursued, especially if it's an individual rather than a limited company - what exactly do you mean, OP?2
