We replaced a number of Amazon sourced, Chinese made LEDs last year.   They were starting to fail almost one after the other after 3 years.

I replaced them with Philips LED Premium Classic B35 Frosted Light Bulbs which were 2w and 4w, like the older ones before them.  I found the luminace on the Philips bulbs to be much greater.  So, much so that the 2w bulbs could do with being 1w and where we had 4w before, the 2w bulbs were just as bright.      Hopefully, being Philips, we will get greater longevity than the Amazon sourced cheap ones.

I'm always amazed how consistent bulb life seems to be these days - a matched set of bulbs, used for the same length of time,  all seem to reach their end of life within days of each other.  I guess this shows how consistent manufacturing tolerances are these days.

Of course, they can still be consistently good or consistently bad!

I'm keeping an eye on the ultraefficients and have some screw-to-bayonet converters as they seem mostly the screw type

    Phillips are the green packs

on amazon, argos and john Lewis/Waitrose

About £9 seems the going rate, a bit less if you can find a 2-pack

Crompton also have them (green flash) and they're around the same price.

After looking for them online without success for ages, I finally found B&Q now sell pendant fittings with an E27 lamp holder to replace the single odd bayonet (+adaptor) we had.

I actually prefer Bayonet, but so many fittings (and everything from Ikea) is screw.

Same. I asked Philips if they're ever going to release ultra efficient Hue bulbs too, and they just told me that if I want to know more, to subscribe

I'd honestly love to make my entire house full of spotlights.

    The rationale for Hue is:
You can get third party switches that both work with Hue AND traditional lights
You can have the light switch actually control the bulb. If you've switched the bulb off in the app, the light switch recognises that
The Ambilight TV experience is substantially better when you've got Hue lights too

I wouldn't ordinarily buy into an entire "eco system" but it seems that Philips are the only company out there that have smart light switches working perfectly with smart bulbs

The switches can be hard wired too, regardless of what they might say. I personally prefer the "friends of Hue" switches

I don't really mind whatever is used tbh in terms of fixtures however the vast majority of light fixtures in the UK use B22, so that can be annoying

Also, again given that I intend on using a shed load more GU10s, it's not a huge issue for me
