Raising interest rates can only impact inflation where that inflation is domestically driven. Most current inflation (food and energy prices) is globally driven. Raising mortgage interest increases RPI, as it takes account of mortgage repayments, but does not increase CPI. It is disappointing that inflation increased for February, but the large hikes in gas prices this time last year should fall out of account very soon.
