Defaulted credit from account not in my name

When you gave your details over the phone, they completed a credit check on you, you passed, and the account would have been set up in your name, even if your 'friend' was paying the bill. As above, I think you are wholly liable for it, and without an option to remove the default. It will have an impact on your creditworthiness, and you'll possibly find it a bit harder to get 'easy credit' and will also be offered higher APR's as your risk will be seen as higher. In terms of your mortgage, you might need to see a specialised broker, but again you'll likely find your APR will be higher, and your mortgage repayment higher. So going ahead will likely cost you quite a bit more over a regular mortgage.I'm sure you did what you did for the right reasons (i.e. to help a friend) but the repercussions are now going to be fairly significant in the short term. Is the 'friend' still a 'friend'?0

sourcrates said:What you describe is not possible, the account cannot have been opened in anyone's name but yours, its always been in your name, hence why the default is on your credit file, and not your friends.
So I`m afraid whatever you were told was rubbish, and you have been liable all along.
I'm the named contact on some Ltd company phone accounts, so I'm assuming similar has happened here. Effectively it's your contract in law, but there is another named contact who deals with the day to day operations of it. I'm not sure of credit file implications for me personally (although they don't routinely show) but this wouldn't be relevant to you as the account is in your name in this case.
I'd advise e-mailing Lowell with what you've said here but I doubt anything will change as it appears to me that what is reported on your file is reasonable indication of the facts.💙💛 💔0 -
None of the major phone networks in the Uk offer guarantor phone contracts, so as above posters have stated - this has always been your contract, in your name, and under your credit history.
the fact that the direct debit has not come from your bank, or that any billing has not been sent to you does not change that.
You are ultimately liable and any missed payments/defaults are solely your responsibility.
