Peugeot 3008 AdBlue fault - out of warranty - Help please

We have a 2019 Peugeot 3008, yesterday the emissions light came on with a warning needing attention, shortly after the adblue light came on saying failure in 500 miles, this had reeently been topped up.

I called for more adblue, filled it fully but the light remained on and the counter didnt reset, I spoke with my local garage who had just serviced the car and they said it was a common issue with Peugeot & that it would need to go to the Peugeot dealer - This has been booked in for next week.

The car is 2019 with 40,000 miles and regular servicing however I have read Peugeot have a long standing issue with their adblue system which is a sealed tank and more often than not from what I read has to be fully replaced at a cost of £1500-to £2000.

As the warranty has recently expired but been well maintained is there any way to approach Peugeot to cover payment and if so how is this best accomplished?

Appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks

If it is out of warranty your only hope is a goodwill gesture from Peugeot. You will stand a better chance if you have always had the car regularly serviced by them, and can provide evidence that this is a known fault. Just write to them with the facts and see what they say. I think there may also be some other basic consumer rights that apply even if th car is out of warranty for something that has failed "prematurely" particularly if it is a know fault. May be worth posting on a Peugeot forum?

    Are there any fault codes?

You might not have a Adblue problem but an Eolys/Pat Fluid problem.
The DPF on these cars utilises a special fluid, Eolys/Pat.
This is introduced into a catalyst before the DPF and reduces the temp the DPF needs to reach to burn the soot which makes the process more reliable.

DPF temps usually need to be 550-600c to reliably burn the soot to ash.
Eolys equiped cars reduce that to around 450c, which is easier to achieve.

You usually get a similar countdown when it thinks the Eolys fluid is getting low.

A tank of Eolys is meant to last around 70k to 80k but regular regens from short tripping can cause it to run low sooner, obviously.

I'm also under the impression the system is linked to fill ups via the fuel flap and topping up rather than filling up from nearer empty can cause the system to think it's used more fuel, so used more fluid than it has.

You might be lucky and it just needs a refill.

OP, last year I had an 'oil pressure stop the car immediately' warning come up on my Peugeot 2008. Rang the garage that services it, and where I bought it from, who are a Peugeot dealership. They suspected it was the wet belt which is apparently a known fault on some engines where the belt delaminates. I was covering my bases as I had a Peugeot warranty but the garage told me that if it was that known fault, Peugeot would cover the repairs outside of the warranty in any case.
As it turns out, they checked everything, and apart from the now historical warning, they couldn't find anything wrong in the sump and the warning hasn't returned. But, they definitely said that Peugeot would cover the known fault issue outside of the warranty, so hopefully they'll do the same for you, albeit a different fault.

    Hi OP

Does the car have full main dealer services at required dates?
    When did the warranty expier

If it has FSH via main dealer as per T&C's and warranty expired recent months - seek goodwill repair
My feeling is its the nox sensor

Have you checked car forums to see if this is a common problem with your car?
Many adblue problems are common to that car as it can happen to certain engines when the car is realtively new.

Seek FoC or goodwill reapir from main dealer if you are as stated above. (but first look at your car forums to see if typical fault for this engine)

  • i've just experienced EXACTLY the same problem. Loads of reports of this on the web. At first it was just a warning, but now I am on a 700 mile countdown.  I've got a 3008 1.5ltr Diesel 19 plate. I've added more AdBlue tonight but not hopeful that the light will go out. AFAIK it has never been overfilled but only had it 9 months. A friend is loaning me his ODB reader tomorrow to get codes. I cannot believe that they have all this tech in cars and I have to get something else to find out what "Engine Fault" means. My old Pug had a button to press and would tell me if even a light was out.
  • AS A FOLLOW UP to my previous post.  The ODB Reader gave me a P20EE error which when googled brought up MANY MANY sites.  My experience - Googling the P20EE, I found a TSB (not the bank, but a technical service bulletin issued by Peugeot). This TSB says that the dealer should perform an ECU reset and upgrade.
Armed with this, I paid a visit to the dealer I bought the car from.  I didn't even need t mention the TSB, as when I told them the code, they told me what it needed, but as it was out of warranty it would cost me £89. Much better that some people who have been told a new AdBlue system at around £2500)

I would get an ODB reader, and get the code. If it is P20EE get the dealer to sort it. If it is a P22 apparently that is more serious.  The ODB reader I borrowed switch off the Engine light, but would not reset the AdBlue countdown.
  • Another follow up...  Guess what happened today?  Yup! Faults are back.  Returning to dealer next Thursday.  Not a happy chappy
