A viral TikTok video recommended people boil their wooden spoons to deep-clean them. I'd love your thoughts, especially if you've tried it.
Worth trying? Load of rubbish? Or potentially damaging?

I probably wouldn't because if you wash them properly, there shouldn't be a need. But I've switched over to silicone everything now, I find them much better, especially on non stick, and washing them is a doddle, no scrubbing, even when they've got dried on stuff.

!!!!!!, you don’t boil wood! The precursor to this daft idea was someone posting about how filthy the water was after they soaked a wooden spoon for a few hours. Totally made up.3

A slight aside: I stuck my wooden chopping board into an economy dishwasher cycle last night and it came out very clean. Significantly blonder and more worn looking, but clean nonetheless. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
No, wood is more antisceptic than people think. It doesn't need boiling. As Taff says, if they are cleaned properly in the first place, there is no problem. Salt will do the job nicely.

My wooden spoons get used in simmering soups and sauces, or boiling jams. They get a wash in hot water with detergent and are not stored damp.
They are not a health hazard.1 -

My wooden spoons get washed with the washing up in a bowl of hot water & wul. A couple of them are almost 40 years old, so older than my kids.
My chopping boards get wiped with a hot wet cloth & stood up to dry. They also get a weekly sprinkle of salt & a scrub with half a lemon followed by a quick hot rinse. Again, these are of varying age from 20 to 5 years old.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I liked this quote from the Guardian on this tiktok video:
Should you ever need to explain TikTok to the uninitiated, sell it this way: a woman in America boiled her wooden spoons and made a video of it, which 49 million people have watched so far.
