    You are at a disadvantage relative to those who are more established, so, while much of the above discussion focuses on the credit card aspects (unsurprisingly when you've posted on the credit card board!), it's probably worth getting some input from a mortgage broker regarding your prospects of convincing companies to lend to you, which will undoubtedly entail being able to demonstrate steady and reliable income:

    Great advice. Having a credit card is not a prerequisite for getting a mortgage.
