How often do you replace clothing? And why?

Since retiring, I've found I need far less clothes than previously (eg no office clothing) and have pruned down my wardrobe to "wear around the house" (smart/casual and comfortable) with a few "going out" outfits.

Socks and underwear are replaced as and when needed, but anything else I'll wear until it's no longer fit for purpose unless it's really badly stained, can't be repaired or made into something else.

I hate shopping for clothes anyway but, when I have to, I tend to buy good quality classic styles that don't date, preferably in the sales (eg shoes, coats).  I sometimes buy from charity shops and am also a dab hand at sewing and knitting - that way I'm not wearing mass produced.  :)   Wash with care, don't tumble dry and repair as soon as it's needed before it gets beyond the point of rescue!
