Cost to replace taps

Hi - looking to replace 3 bathroom taps and a shower mixer tap. Been quoted £200 labour only - does that seem reasonable? Never had to change taps before. Thanks

Sounds rather a lot if it’s just labour. If it’s straight swaps (taps off, new taps on) I’d have thought a decent plumber could have done that in a couple of hours. Mind you, don’t know what their rates are these days; always had my brother deal with those jobs at mates rates

I'd imagine it's a day rate, or a 'quote em high because it's not worth losing a whole day' rate.

Not done it, but can you not just Google how to do it? Feels like it should be relatively straight forward. (Happy to be told otherwise)

    Hi OP

    Where about you living?

Depends on how easy to access taps/etc

What is the shower mixer tap, I'm confused - you talking about bath taps with integrated shower tap?

If its straight forward, i the north of the uk about 100 quid if they are local and no vat. Down the south about 140 to 160 max if local if all is relatively straightforward.

    :)

Sounds more like a half-day rate to me.

I was being optimistic. But agree.

This really depends on accessibility, so photos would help
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I changed mine last week ( basin mono tap and bath mixer tap ) took less than an hour to do all. This was using flexi connectors though from the taps to existing copper pipes with compression fittings and isolators on them so was very easy to do.

It really is an easy DIY job to do, and no special tools needed just a couple of spanners.

The only thing that would take more time is if the existing taps have copper pipe all the way up to them, as this may need altering or replacing depending on the size and design of the new taps as they don't always line up properly ( in this case I just cut off the copper pipe and use flexi fittings anyway as it's much easier for any future changes and means you can add isolation valves in for them )

£200 seems a lot, but is probably charging a half day rate
