Gas meter installation

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. I have been without heating for 3 weeks now, my storage heaters were condemned and I'm currently awaiting gas lines to be run. (The whole street has gas apart from me, so gas is available)
I am awaiting a reference number still but I was trying to prepare for a gas meter to be installed, so I email my current electricity provider (bulb) who are currently in administration and I'm being transferred over to Octopus.
Bulb have said that they won't fit the meter as I am going to be an octopus customer. I emailed octopus and they say they won't install the meter as I am not yet their customer! I have rung both and had the same conversation over the phone also and I'm at a real loss at where to go and what to do to get a meter fitted...  ive been without heating long enough and don't want to have to wait longer when the gas is due to be connected on the 14th March 2023... I would really appreciate any help and advice. Kind regards.

Maybe not much help, but was in a similar situation to this a couple of years ago.
Cadent did the gas supply to the house. The other houses already had it except us. They said they don't do meters.
So, contacted our electricity supplier, EON. They wouldn't supply a gas meter. Tried a couple of others, who also just wouldn't do it. Then tried SSE. They were happy to do it, and supply the gas. Cost was £250 I think.. and they fitted it a few days after I first contacted them .

Contact Octopus to be taken on by them as a completely new gas customer? Who supplies the electricity is irrelevant as far as I can see, at the moment.

Edit: It occurs to me as well that if you have a friend or family member already with Octopus, there would be no reason why you couldn't try using their referral code as - right now - you would be a new customer to Octopus!

I believe that Octopus is not allowing Bulb customers to switch to Octopus as there is an ongoing transfer in process.

They can leave the electricity where it is though can't they - ie, with Bulb - and just open a "new customer" account with Octopus for the gas as there isn't currently a gas account anywhere else? Eventually clearly they would end up with both fuels being with the single provider, and at that stage it would be hoped that octopus would simply add the migrated electricity account to the then existing gas one?

I'm certain that you are right about Bulb > Octopus switches being disallowed currently - we've had folk here previously who wanted to switch onto Agile but weren't able to because of not being able to make the jump from Bulb until the system says they can I think.
