Linux via VMWare Workstation Player 16 - desktop flickering.

Anyone have an idea what's going on here?

I've been able to use Linux (Mint Cinnamon) via VMWare 16 fine enough. I updated it & then when I have a browser open i now get portions of the desktop flickering over the browser page. Not the whole desktop, just random portions.

I then created a new VM with the total latest version of Linux Mint Cinnamon. Don't ask what the previous update updated me to unless you also can say how I find that out because I know after updating I ended up clicking on something else that said it wasn't on the latest version - which is why I then created a new VM.

Anyway, waffling over ... the same happens on the new latest version as well.

I wondered if perhaps it's some version not agreeing with some browser add ons but the new VM has no add ons installed.

But before this, it never did it at all.

I've had that in the past, but it seemed to go away of its own accord with the various upgrades.
Did you update VMware Tools in the VM?
ISTR i did some faffing around with using OpenVM Tools vs VMware Tools too.
(Sorry i can't be more precise with the answer!)

Ever or immediately before this flickering?

    If immediately before then no.
If ever then I can't actually remember as daft as that sounds. I remember I got a message about VMWare Tools when I first set up the VM but I don't get it any more. Whether that's because I installed something or turned off the notification, it was that long ago I can't actually remember.

If you can tell me how I can check then I can tell you.

I Googled that as I don't have a clue what it means.

install an rdp server into the linux and rdp into it from your host OS (which I assume is Windows) as a sideways approach to the problem, taking any UI from VMWare workstation/player* out of the equation?  I find running a virtualised OS in a window rather than full screen in an rdp session a proper nuisance (unless the window is PuTTy)

caveat : I don't know what mint cinnamon is, I do most of my work in debian.

    * I  am assuming vmware workstation as ESXi only at version 8, so isn't anywhere near version 16 yet.
