Travel Insurance over 2 periods

I bought annual Travel Insurance last June and have had to claim on it as I was supposed to be going away in March and my husband is now ill. I am awaiting the return of my form from my GP

I also booked another holiday in January to  Ecuador  in November this year.

By November I will need new insurance as my current one will run out in June 2023.

I would like to know who I would have to claim on if I had to cancel the November trip.? Do I need to buy insurance from June 2023 to 2024 in June, or should I wait until nearer the time. We are unlikely to go away before November, as things stand

As I will probably be buying online how do I tell the new insurer that I have a holiday already booked, if I have to tell them at all? I'm thinking I will have to tell the new insurer as we have made a claim

Thanks for any advice and guidance

Well you don't know at this point if the Nov trip will be cancelled and you may not know until October - health issues being what they are!  So if you have booked for you both for Nov you need to have a policy in place to cover that.  If something happens between June and November and you've no insurance at that point you have no cover.

What I don't know is if you can't both travel in November and know that before June will your current policy cover it or will it be excluded because it's after the end of the policy?  That might be outlined in your T&Cs or be sorted with a call to the insurer.

For a new policy in June you will need declare any pre existing medical conditions which will include your husband's current condition.

It will either be pre existing condition or a current condition.

Either way it will need to be declared.

If it is still ongoing , you may find the insurance company will not cover him as the condition is known before taking out the policy.

So, you may need to cancel before your existing policy ends  in June, to be covered.
