British Gas Homecare will install privately sourced boiler parts

As long as the parts are new and boxed from a reputable manufacturer, British Gas will install replacement parts that they cannot source themselves. At least that's what I've been told.

My old boiler which still works has just had its PCB changed. The heat exchanger is good. Apart from the fan and valves there's not too much else that can go wrong with it. The valves are no longer available.

Is it worth me buying and storing a fan - about £130 to £230 - for when it needs to be replaced given that it's unlikely that British Gas will be able to source one themselves from their fairly restrictive available parts list?

I would do so, if I could get the fan for around the £100 mark, but not for £230. I'd rather put that sort of money towards a new boiler for which parts are more readily available.

I recently stopped boiler care cover because of cost and their restrictive parts list and intend to use local fitters to either repair if need be or more likely get one to fit new more efficient boiler.

When I had my Vaillant Combi installed about 12 yrs ago, I bought spares, pump, pcb and 2 diverter valves ands fan For no more than £40 each. in the past 5 yrs I’ve replaced all of them, except for the fan.
And again bought replacement part’s when and if they fail again, but I am happily in the knowledge I’ll sell them for more than they cost, plus I can have the boiler back up working in less than a hour.
